Youth Worker

Since March 2020 South Swindon Parish Council has had a dedicated youth service, supporting young people in the South Swindon Parish with their personal and social development. This service has now increased to 2 dedicated youth workers.

The types of services the Parish Council’s Youth Service has offered include:

  • Working with local schools to provide targeted support to some of their students, including at Goddard Park Primary, Holy Park Primary, Drove Primary, St Joseph’s School.
  • Supporting kids into school who are new to Swindon from another country.
  • Supporting children inside the Parish with poor mental health and/or low self-esteem.
  • Supporting children back into school with behavioral difficulties.
  • Supporting young families with benefits claims.
  • A summer holiday poster competition- artistically explaining what is great about Swindon.
  • Organising fun activities for young people in the community- like an Easter Egg Trail in Town Gardens and Queen’s Park.

South Swindon Parish Youth Club

The Parish Council has started a Youth Club inside the Parish dedicated to providing young people with a safe place to spend their spare time which remains at the heart of what we do.

South Swindon Parish Youth Club is based at Buckhurst Community Centre (Walcot) and operates on a weekly basis.  We welcome children aged between 7 – 12 years (this is our younger age group).  At present, we open on a Thursday evening.  During youth club we carry out various activities such as:

Interaction Games
Board Games
Arts & Crafts
Dancing & Musical Activities
Sports (this includes Table Tennis & Football Table)
Quizzes & General Knowledge

Future Plans for the Parish Council Youth Service

Enrichment based activities inside our local parks during half term and summer holidays.

Family days – BBQ’s and fun activities for all to enjoy.

Transition into college and work placements -This could be preparing a young person for interviews – such as CV writing and interview role play.

Enterprise Projects – local representatives to come and speak to our young people to encourage them to develop their own personal and entrepreneurial skills.

Science and Exploration Days out.
