What is a Community Action Day?

A Community Action Day is where members of the community come together to achieve a shared goal, such as tidying the area through litter picking and gardening.

How do I get involved?

South Swindon is rich with individuals and groups who are passionate about making their community brighter and safer for everyone”.

We have had various groups involved in community action, including schools, cubs/scouts, corporate teams and local residents.

If you are interested in organising your own Community Action Day, but don’t know where to start, please reach out to communities@southswindon-pc.gov.uk.

Past Community Action Days:

Walcot & Park North community action day – 6th May 2026

Together with local residents and support from the police, we carried out a litter pick and helped tidy parts of Walcot and Park North. Every bit of effort helps keep the area looking cleaner, brighter and more welcoming for everyone.

Kingshill Community action day – 11 , 17 and 24 January 2026

21 + local residents and volunteers in the Kingshill area collected 24 bags of waste and have left the pavements and footpaths around Dean street, Birch street, Bowood, Okus steps, the alleyway around commonweal field and around the shop at Angel Ridgemuch cleaners and safer.

Badbury Park Community Action Day – January 10 2026

Thank you to the local councilors and volenteers of Badbury park for clearing an incredible ammount of litter in just 60 minutes!

Oakfield Community Action Day – 22 December 2025

Organised by Swindon Travel Choices and South Swindon Parish Council, local volunteers and councillors collect over 10 bags of litter and tidy up the local green spaces in Oakfield. Swindon Travel Choices offered free cycling and safety equipment to help our residents stay safe this winter.

Badbury Park Community Action Day – 30 0ctober 2025

Supported by local residents, councillors, volunteers and SSPC gardeners, four raised beds have been planted outside the hub with herbs and sustatinable planting arrangements. Our Youth Worker also entertained the young people with crafts and pumpkin carving.

Eastcott Community Action Days – 18 October & 15 November 2025

Local residents, volunteers and Councilors organised a large community tidy up in the Eastcott area.

Nepalese Association of Swindon & Wiltshire Community Action Day at Cavendish Square – September 25 2025

Thank you to the Nepalese Association of Wiltshire (NAW) for collecting 9 bags of rubbish and litter at Cavendish Square on Saturday 27 September.

We’re delighted to provide the litter picking equipment for community groups and individuals looking to help keep South Swindon Tidy.

Badbury Park Community Action – 16 August 2025

Councillors joined local residents to tidy up the area, collecting over 20 bags of litter

Over 16 people supprted the session and many positive conversations and connections took place in the Community.

Brighter Broadgreen Action Day – 7 August 2025

Following the success of the Picnic in the Park , local organisations and volunteers came together for another tidy up yesterday as part of Brighter Broadgreen efforts in the area.

6 bags of litter were collected, and many positive conversations were had in the local community.

Bloom Judging Community Action Day – July 14 2025

Tidy up along Pipers Way, Marlborough Road, Croft Woods and the Wild Meadows and collected over 15 bags of litter and some bulky items to help Keep Swindon Tidy.

Brighter Broadgreen Community Action Day – May 28 2025

The council, partners and members of the community came together for a tidy up as part of ongoing ‘Brighter Broadgreen’ efforts in the area. 28 volunteers and multiple organisations joined in collecting over 15 full bags of litter.
