Pygmalion
By George Bernard Shaw
Adapted by Chris Hawley
BlackBox Theatre Company
“The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she’s treated.”Is it possible to transform a simple London flower girl into a Duchess? Should Professor Henry Higgins even try? After all his reputation as an eminent phonetician is at stake.
This lovingly reworked adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s classic play takes a humorous yet poignant look at the hollowness of the British class system, gender politics and social mobility and explores the question … is it right to try and fundamentally change someone?
A tale of male manipulation and female self-discovery, this story is perhaps more relevant today than it was when first staged over a hundred years ago.
